Rest Is Part of the Music 🌿

Hey loves.
A time was had.
Yesterday we gathered at Livingroom, the beautiful sister space to Femme Fatale DC. The circle was small yet much needed. The rhythm was different. Cozy. Intimate. The kind of afternoon that reminds you a gathering doesn't have to be big to feel abundant.
It still carried that backyard cookout energy—the kind that doesn't need a crowd to feel full.
We spent the afternoon singing one of my forever favorites, Before I Let You Go by Frankie Beverly & Maze. You know the one. The song that lives in your body before it ever reaches your voice. The one that makes people sway without thinking. The one that somehow turns a room of near strangers into family by the second chorus.
Around us, art covered every wall. Velvet couches invited people to sink in and stay awhile. There were peace signs, little dances, shared smiles, and the kind of laughter that arrives when no one is trying too hard.
It reminded me of something I've been feeling for a while now.
Music isn't something we perform.
It's something we share.
It's a conversation without words. A rhythm passed from one person to another. A breath you release, trusting someone else will receive it.
That's the heartbeat of Sing DC.
Not perfection.
Not performance.
Presence.

Yesterday felt like proof that community isn't measured by how many people fill a room. It's measured by how safe yet courageous people feel to show up exactly as they are. Sometimes the smallest circles create the deepest harmony.
As we packed up, I realized this gathering was also the perfect way to begin our summer pause.
This isn't goodbye.
It's simply a little July exhale.
We'll spend the next few weeks resting, soaking in sunshine, finding inspiration in ordinary moments, and remembering that rest is part of the music too. Just like silence gives shape to a melody, seasons of stillness give shape to our lives.
We'll return in August with open hearts, fresh harmonies, and plenty more songs waiting to be sung together.
Until then...
Sing in your kitchen.
Hum while you're driving.
Dance barefoot in your living room.
Text a friend you've been meaning to call.
Notice the beauty that's been waiting patiently for you to slow down enough to see it.
And keep the music close to your body.
See you soon.
With love,
Ms. P. 🤎
