(Ages 8-13 from July 22-26 at Springwell School in Silver Spring)
My goal as the facilitator for the Hip Hop Culture Summer Camp is to immerse kids in the diverse and dynamic elements of hip hop culture, fostering creativity, collaboration, and self-expression. My teaching approach begins with a brief, one-minute meditation to ground ourselves before diving into the day's activities. This mindful practice helps set a calm and focused tone. Following the meditation, we collectively list our intentions for the lesson, ensuring everyone is aligned and ready to create and learn together. Through engaging, hands-on activities such as breakdancing, DJing, MCing, t-shirt making, chain creation, and mural painting, the camp aims to:
Encourage Self-Expression: Allow kids to express themselves through various forms of hip hop art, helping them to build confidence and find their unique voice.
Develop Artistic Skills: Teach foundational skills in different aspects of hip hop culture, including dance, music, visual arts, and fashion design.
Promote Physical Activity: Engage kids in physical activities like breakdancing, promoting fitness and healthy habits in a fun and interactive way.
Foster Creativity: Stimulate imagination and creativity by encouraging kids to create their own music, dance routines, fashion items, and artwork.
Build Teamwork and Collaboration: Enhance social skills through group projects such as mural making and group performances, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and collaboration.
Cultivate Cultural Awareness: Educate kids about the history and significance of hip hop culture, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of its impact on society.
Provide a Safe and Inclusive Environment: Ensure a welcoming and supportive space where all kids feel valued and inspired to participate and share their talents.
By the end of the camp, participants will have gained new skills, created unique projects, and experienced the empowering and unifying spirit of hip hop culture.
Affirmation for Hip Hop summer camp
My art is an explosion of my unique vision, and my imagination is the fuel. I won't be boxed in by expectations. The world needs to see what only I can create. Let me break free and show them the power of my individuality.
