Successful Hip Hop Summer Camp at Springwell School!

Our Hip Hop Summer Camp at Springwell School was a huge success! We had about 10 kids enrolled to learn DJing, writing lyrics, rapping, assembling their own chain necklaces, designing and painting T-shirts, baseball caps, and sneakers, dancing a variety of hip hop genres, and creating a mural. Each lesson included a social-emotional learning objective, starting with meditation, morning huddle stretches, and sharing thoughts and feelings. We read books about hip hop history and played interactive games to reinforce learning.

Local artists shared their expertise and passion. DJ Jeff the Chef brought extra turntables, Leo and Hikari from Urban Artistry Dance Studio taught West Coast hip hop styles, Realms aka Greg shared graffiti history, and Khali led a rap songwriting workshop. By the end of the week, the kids were eager for more, and even their parents wanted a retreat inspired by hip hop.

I’m thrilled to have brought this vision to life with the help of Springwell School, the artists, and the parents who believed in our program. Stay tuned for future events as we continue to grow and inspire.
